Not a Dry Eye as Freshmen Welcomed With This Blessing

Xavier University President Father Graham welcomed the Class of 2021 with a blessing that moved parents and students to tears.  He offered two messages to the gathering of freshmen and their families during move-in. Your heart will swell with the looks of pride on these parents’ faces.

Blessing for college freshmen and parents
Father Graham shared a message and a blessing from parents to their freshmen…
“Know in your own heart, the depth of my love for you.”
He also shared a message from the new college students to their parents…
“Never forget how much of you I carry forward with me into this new chapter of my life.”

These might be some of the most beautiful off-to-college words.  Grab a hankie and listen.

Caution: Father Graham's welcome prayer to the Class of 2021 may cause tears.

Dear Child,

May you be powerfully loving and lovingly powerful.

May love be your guide with family, friends and colleagues.

May you listen carefully to your own heart and to the hearts of others.

May you have the strength to overcome fear and pride,

and follow instead what has heart and meaning for you
