Yay, The Break Is Over-“Friends” Is Having A Reunion In May

Friends: The Reunion will premiere exclusively on HBO’s streaming service, HBO Max, on Thursday, May 27 at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT.

The Friends reunion is happening

I was scrolling through my Instagram on Friday when I saw Jennifer Aniston’s latest post: It was a picture of her and all the cast members of Friends with the caption, “It’s happening.”

Was I seeing this correctly? There have been teasers about this very thing for years. Could it be true? I thought maybe this was a joke. Then the next square in my feed was the same picture with the same caption from Courtney Cox (yes, I follow them all) and I thought, Yes! It’s on.

It’s really going to happen and no one is more excited than I am.

I’ve been waiting for this moment for a really long time–fifteen years to be exact. I have not been able to let this show go. It ended too quickly and all this time I’ve been hoping Friends, the very popular, Emmy-winning show which ran from 1994 to 2004, wasn’t really ending. I was hoping that they were merely taking a break.

The entire cast will be returning. That means Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt Leblanc and Matthew Perry will be together again.

C/net reports that, “It will be filmed on the original sound stage used to shoot Friends.”

I can already see that signature green sofa and those oversized coffee cups and I can only imagine all the Friends parties that are going to be happening while we sit mesmerized to our screens. It was reported that the special will be on HBO Max in May.

While it’s only three months away, I can honestly say that time is going to drag until I can get another dose of my all-time favorite television show. I’m hoping to get a big helping of Chandler’s humor, Monica’s OCD and of course Smelly Cat.

The other good new is that HBO Max will also provide every Friends episode ever recorded for your viewing pleasure, so we can watch all the deliciousness whenever we want. Could we BE any more excited?

We can’t deny the anticipation for this reunion that has been brewing for a long time. The rumors have been swirling since the show ended on May 6, 2004 and I cried about the fact that it was over for days.

It’s also exciting for me that my kids who were little when the show ended are now teens and they binge-watched every episode when it was available on Netflix. They’ve been sporting Friends sweatshirts and other clothing. I’m psyched that we can watch it together and I’m pretty sure this is something they will agree to do with me sans bribing.

So mark your calendars for May to see the unscripted special–the reunion we’ve all been waiting for with bated breath is finally here. Just hearing the news is making people bust out “When it actually is your day, your week, your month and even your year…I’ll be there for you…”

Of course I wish it was being teed up to run for another decade, but I’ll take what I can get.
